my stock 60,000 mile 69 L46 shows zero oil pressure at idle, it does not make any noise though. i plan to try another oil pressure gauge real soon (car is parked for winter). meanwhile my little brain is already thinking of a rebuild . my thought is a stroker crank for 383 C.I.D. using the original block and heads. i'm wandering about the stock intake though, I've got a 69 Z28 intake and an NOS BB hood so clearance shouldn't be an issue. any thoughts on cam, pistons, carb, intake? the car has a close ratio muncie and 3.70 gear, i've got a 3.36 and a wide ratio that i want to install. thanks
At idle, a Chevy V8 enigne with a stock oil pump might only have 10 psi oil pressure....and that gauge is not that accurate. There may be nothing wrong with it. Check it with a GOOD quality gauge to be sure before you start tearing it down.
^^if it had 0 lbs youd know
Trick flow makes an aluminum look alike double hump head...you could keep your intake, a reasonable cam it would run good. 650-750 cfm carb/headers it would be night and day
Shouldnt be hard to get 450/4xx tq out of it and have some civility
Thanks for the input guys. I've got a good gauge but between overtime and snow/cold and lazy it might be a week or two before i can test it. i'll update this thread when i test it.
