Gonna pull the intake on an L46 as part of a thorough detail and was wondering if there were any "gotcha's".
I know in everything else we've done to the car there's always something waiting to bite your butt and make an easy job difficult.
Thanks,
Re: any tricks or traps when pulling the intake (Bugster57)
About the only gotcha's are setting the timing before pulling the distrib (so you can get it started and timed) and using a bead of silicone on the front and back rails instead of the rubber gaskets.
Re: any tricks or traps when pulling the intake (Bugster57)
As mentioned about the timing, mkae sure you mark where the distributor was and the rotor too. Also remember to there is a tighting sequence when putting it back on.
Really look things over so you know where everythings (cables) goes when you put it back together. Once all the bolts are out it probaably won't come off so in the front try to find a lip ti pry it off.
Once the intake is off, put rags or paper towels in in the holes before scraping the old gaskets off, you don't want anything falling down in them.
Don't use the cork gasket on the block use a bead of ultra black. for cleaning the old gasket off the heads get a gasket scraper saves times and won't gouge as much as a screw driver.
A ditributor wrench to tighten loosen the bolt will save a big headace and it great for timing too.
