I was reading an old CF mag on the installaton of a Y pipe with a crossover on an 85. Reportedly, it picked up a few HP and reduced resonance quite a bit.
Since the CAT on an 85 acts as a forward h crossover, there is something going on that is beneficial behind the diff with the rear crossover.
The only thing I can think of it helping is if the mufflers are not good enough to handle the CFM output...
This would also explain the noise reduction.
Sometimes when I think real hard, I get a headache
Sounds like this would be a very inexpensive experiment for someone who is having a problem with resonance.
I hope one of the forum members will give it a try so we can hear about the results.
