Default Does size matter?

If you were looking a two 69 coupes that were identical in every condition but one had a NOM freshly rebuilt 427 and the other had a freshly rebuilt NOM 454 would it make any difference in the value ? Would you prefer at least to have a correctly sized engine if it isn't at least correctly numbered?

Actually I am trying to decide on how to rebuild mine so I can sell it. Rebuild the 427 that I have or buy a rebuilt 454.

I don't think that would matter at all, if there both fresh and done correctly...
Take the one with the best body paint, everything else being equal... :yesnod:

You cannot tell the difference looking at them so go for size.

If both would be similar buildups - I would go with the 454.. More displacement = more torque.... The weight is the same - so why not go with 454???

Doesnt the 427 have a shorter stroke? If so then that would make it rev up quicker. The 454 with its longer stroke may have a bit more tq. In a lighter car, definatly the 427. In a heavier car, maybe the 454 has the advantage. Its really a toss up. Depends on the application.

The 427 is a little bit more rev happy, but you could get a 454 to rev the same with a few bucks..I would go for the 454..Torque is a good thing :yesnod:

Just remember that when you overbore that 427 it will be around 434...

Not too much differance!

If you want the car for stop light type drag racing then the 454 is the way to go. In drag racing size does matter.

If your question is about resale value, I think the 427 is a little more nostalgic and therefore slightly more valuable.

A 454 will usually require a different balancer and flywheel as well, so the 454 may cost you a little more than the 427.

This is true....but just remember if you overbore a 454, even more cubes :).

I'm pretty happy with my 468. Had I to do it over again, I would have saved up the money and built a 500+ ci motor.

Sounds like the logic used by Ricers: "My engine is small but it will rev more and make more hp then your V8." :D jk

Given stock motors but with light weight SCAT cranks and all the goodies out of summit racing. They have BB 540 Merlins reving up quicker than 327 small blocks so I guess it's all relative to your engine build?

I am just trying to get a feel if you all think I will be hurting my resale value putting in a 454 or if it will make any difference since my 427 isn't original anyway.
