I am considering installing electric fans on my stock 77. I have heard I should get about 10 to15 horsepower by doing this. I price some at Advanced Auto (Imperial Brand). I guess my question is will I notice any extra zip, will they cool better and is Imperial a good brand?
I installed electric fans on my 81. I changed to a Be Cool Aluminum radiator at the same time. I installed the dual Flex lite fans from Flex lite. I ordered it from Summit racing. You can also get them from Jeg's high performance. They come installed in a nice fan shroud with wiring and relays. I changed the fan switch in the passenger side head to come on at 195 degrees and off at 180 degrees. You able to remove the old and bulky radiator shroud. I did not notice any great amount of performance put the engine stays alot cooler.
The only brand that I'd suggest using are Spal dual 11" fans. They flow more air than Flexlite or any other brand I know of. I'm not going to slam Flexlite's as some people are having good luck with them, but I know the Spals are the best (and the most expensive) and in my opinion you don't want to go cheap when you're talking about the cooling system.

I don't think that it will make a 10 - 15 HP difference.. It's more likely approx. 5 HP...
Dunno about the electric fans ... but Imperial fan clutches sold at stores such as Autozone & Advance are manufactured by Hayden. I've found that Hayden's Bruce Stone very open & honest when answering my questions.
