Altenator Amps
When replacing a altenator can the amperage saftly be increased. The 68 has a 42 amp unit ( something close) I see 79, 80 and 100 amp units. Will installing a higher amperage altenater hurt and cause issue? Be kind with your comments.

Upping the amperage is fine as long as you also update the wiring to support it. Search the forum for 'CS144' which is a very common alternator swap. I myself am putting a 100 amp unit on.
The question I would ask is: Do you need the additional amperage? If you are adding things like electric fans, upgraded stereo, amps, etc then it may be a good idea but if you are keeping the car mostly stock then there really shouldn't be much of a need.

Another thing to consider when looking at changing alternators is where the amps are, in relation to RPM. Some of the ones offered with high amp outputs only give those numbers at higher RPMs.
Do you need more juice on the highway or idling down the boulevard?
Also look around at what is needed to fit a different alt into your car, a 10si vs 12si vs CS130 vs cs144 vs cs130D, some drop in, some not so much
