Default c3 OEM sfront shocks

Hi Guys!

I was wondering what the factory front shocks are on the 74 stingray coupe... (what brand, what part number)

I pulled out a pair of Monroe 5906ST, but I'm not they are OEM shocks...

Does anyone know which I should get to keep it original. thanks

Probably the same as were in my '77, or equally unavailable. Delco Products Pliacell PN 4984577, at least the HD ones. Maybe somebody's rebuilding them but you should just install a nice set of Bilsteins and call it good. Paint them blue/grey if you don't like the color.

Unless you have a specific reason to get the OEM Delcos, go with Bilstein's since they are by far better than Delcos and or any other mass market shock........

If it is not a 'show' car and you aren't going to get it judged, put a good set of gas shocks on it. If you are keeping the car for many years, buy the Bilsteins (wait for a sale on a full set). If you plan on parting with the car in a few years, install Monroe Gas-Matics or Delco gas shocks.

All will give you a decent ride; the Bilsteins will last forever.

Monroe Gas-Matics. Paint 'em gray and get back on the road.

If you have an OEM base suspension C3, Bilstein Heavy Duty. If you have an OEM gymkhana suspension with the 7 leaf steel rear spring, heavy duty since the car rides hard with the rear 292lb rear spring. If you have a replacement rear spring that is composite like my 360 VBP monospring, Bilstein Sports, and I run Bilstein HD's in front with the factory 550 coil springs.

The Bilstein Sports are 30% stiffer than the HD's............................You can use any combination that fits your ride needs........Bilsteins are all good, whether HD's or sports.

To answer your question AC Delco front shocks with part number with GM# 4975167. The 4984577s were first used with FE7 Gymkhana suspension in 1975.
