Starter would work fine when cold engine, but after warmup it would have a hard time getting engine to turnover. Investigation shows BUBBA had made previous repair.
This is an easy fix, just replace positive cable while on jakstands to do the brakes. But after checking for replacement cable, all were stated as 92” long. Should fit since they are for 68-82 Corvettes.
After removing Bubbas cable, I decided to measure the length. It was n all the original clamps and ran over the trans. BUT IT WAS 88” long to his “repair” and 108” total length.
This means a 92”cable will be about 16” too short. So what size cable should I use to make a new positive lead that s 110” long?
No extra cable in battery box, and the “repair” was almost to the block.
With 88” length it was still 8-10” short of starter post. But it was installed in the clamps and routed correctly.
This is why the question of length? I don’t know how a 92” cable would reach the extra 6” needed to the starter post.
(I removed the duct tape to check the connection when I found it)
