I can't find what I need from doing searches so can I ask how big an alternator I need for my 73?
small block
A/C
manual windows, no other options
Also were they internal regulator by this year?
thanks
Virtually anything 63Amps or over should be fine (I wouldn't bother with anything lower with A/C, probably need to special order it if you did LOL). If you're thinking maybe down the road adding electric fans or large stereo or something you may want to consider something closer to 80A.
Your local starter/alternator place should be able to set you up easily with one of those. 12SI should be a drop-in replacement
Most of the "100A" units need to be buzzing at highway speeds to produce anywhere near that much and that's not usually when you need it so it's probably not what you'll be needing, plus if you did you shuld also be looking at upgrading some of the 45 year old harness to handle the increased power

I would stick with a stock 63 amp SI unit. If you go bigger, you should increase the size of the output wire. Too much work if you don't need it, but necessary if you do.

Just get a CS-144 and upgrade the wiring. It's easy enough and they're wonderful.
Especially if you're considering adding loads (like your proposed fans). You'll be happier.

Sometimes new problems show up when we strive to "improve" a circuit, assembly, etc.
