'72 L-48 coupe now running a Corvette '73 rebuilt 454. Braided correct spark plug wires are possibly giving me tune up problems. Should I just go with a modern set (keeping the originals for sure) I converted to the BB 25+ years ago and am now sorting/tweeking it out after 20+ years in heated storage. Car is 100% correct GM/Corvette I built it as one would have ordered a loaded LS-5 in 1972.
You just need to replace the wires inside of the braiding. The braided wire is just a way to 'dump' ignition noise out of the radio signal. But if the insulation on the plug wiring gets old and begins to crack, the spark signals can be 'lost' to ground via the braiding.
Pull out the old wire and buy a good quality resistance wire kit with the same diameter wire.
P.S. String them 'one-at-a-time' to avoid mis-routing them.

How? My 69 date coded wires were crimped at both ends by the factory to hold the braid.......were the 72's different?
FWIW , I have a set of Lectric limited replacements here , never used , no crimping , it would be possible to renew the wires and then put a new end on .
