If your distributor is still in the car, and the car runs, just follow C6 Racer X's instructions. No need for the TDC finder (you need TDC following the compression stroke), unless the engine gets bumped after the distributor is out.
Here's an image of my distributor, cap off, rotor pointed at where plug wire 1 went (slightly to the right of forward center). I aligned the engine before swapping this distributor for a new one. I was able to quickly install and time the new one with little fuss.
