I ordered a steering wheel from Mid-America about four weeks ago and it remains on back order. Contacted them yesterday and it could be another two or three weeks. I am tried of waiting.
So, where can I get a nice steering wheel that will bolt on my 72 without any modifications? BTW, I would like to see some that you have already installed.
There is a Grant Steering wheel that is supposed to bolt up without and mods. It is part # 791 I beleive and it is pretty sexy and fits Corvette columns with Tele-Tilt withoud mods. I tried to order this wheel from Ecklers- for $99.00. First they told me steering wheels are hard to find now and then told me the price is $150, but had it in stock.
Since I was in the midle of my resto , I said sure I'll take it. Well they delivered a Lecarra wheel that looks like an 82 original except the center black metal is a polished chromish look. It wasnt the Grant with dual spoke design that I wanted.
Since I was worried about just getting a wheel, I didnt return it. Now every time I look at it, I wish I would have just looked elsewhere for the Grant. My .02
I have the black leather wrapped Grant 791 steering wheel. Go to http://www.grantproducts.com, then click on Classic Series, then click on Classic Corvette Series. Spokes are of the same style of my original '68 steering wheel and the stock horn button fits. Piece of cake to install, looks good and it's about 2" smaller diameter than the stock '68 wheel.

I got mine from ZIP and it is a dead ringer for stock except the leather is much nicer than stock.
this aint a great pic, but it will give you a general idea.
I think this is called a Grant classic or something. Anyhoo The wheel was cheap at checker's. I took the orignal hub mounting thingie and compaired it to 3 or 4 other hub adapters on the shelf. Picked out the one I wanted. I THINK i spent less than 100 bucks. The corvette horn logo I ordered for 20 bucks and got it in 2 weeks from checker also.
I like it, cuz its leather. small enuff for me to get in with out gouging my leggs, and there are great "thumb rest" for cruzing
Try Autozone or Pep Boys.
Both are Grant dealers, and if they don't have the Corvette one in stock, they can order it for you, and get it in a couple of days.
Overall Cheaper and free shipping.
Good Luck. :seeya
Sorry, I should have mentioned this in my original posting. Suggested retail on the Grant 791 is about $125 and Summit carries it for about $90. You can order it online - use the manufactuer's part number button, select Grant Products and use p/n 791.
