I am working on a 76. The wippers work working fine and suddenly they wil only travel 2 inches and return. The link off the motor was worn, so I welded to fill and then ground down to flat. still the problem continues. any ideas?

"Two inches" sounds like they are never leaving the "park" mode.

Pull every connector off the motor.. pull the bell crank off the motor and basically bench test the motor in the car without removing it..
If the motor responds in the same manner then the issue is probably the park switch. If this is the case, fixing it is more costly than buying a rebuilt motor.
Go to this link for how to bench test the motor... but remember.. take the car out of the equation by removing all wires from the motor including the ground... Then run three grounds to the engine, use the alternator for a power source.
