I'm at the point in my drivetrain rebuild where I need to buy my clutch. I rebuilt the L79 (327/350HP). I am expecting 350-375 HP. What brand clutch is everyone using? I would to budget $300.00 or less. I think something that can handle 400 HP is fine.
RAM HDX which replaced the stock GM clutch during my rebuild of the L-82. 450+ Gross HP now and the RAM HDX feels exactly like the stock clutch with OEM HP.
I have had excellent luck with Centerforce clutches over the years although I know a lot of guys on this Forum don't like them. A Centerforce I is probably adequate for your build. Centerforce II if want to be extra sure. The Centerforce II has a little heavier pedal feel, but I don't find it objectionable. Won't quite come in under your $300 budget though.
FYI....I believe Lars did an article on proper clutch disengagement and used a ram with a dial gauge to measure a few popular clutches....the McLeod was the only one that was correct.
Lars....correct me if it was not you.

I switched to centerforce many years ago, not as heavy a pedal and held up to 500hp and I sure wasn't nice to it at all.
I wouldn't use another brand. now.

Yes, that was me. I did a write-up over on the C1/C2 Forum here:
That was a great thread Lars. Made me realize why I couldn’t get my twin disc clutch to release after I had it rebuilt with discs with marcel. Wouldn’t release until well over .600 inches of travel. Drove me nuts! Definitely something to consider when replacing a clutch in these Corvettes.

Thanks for the link again......I bought my McLeod based solely on this info and I must say that it has been a long time since I had a Vette that went right into reverse....amazing.
I have used Luk for stock cars, and Mc Leod for peppy cars. Centerforce is the only one I had to rip out. It made the whole car shake like an old Maytag washer.
