my car is an auto. It seems to me that the vacuum valve is redundant. There is already a switch that attaches to the brake pedal that goes out to the transducer. This elec. switch is suppose to shut down the cruise control when pedal is pushed down. I can't locate an additional vacuum line under the dash that the valve would attach to.
I'm going to the regional NCRS meet here in town tomorrow. Maybe someone with a 79 will let me look under the dash.
Thanks for all the replies. I am some what mechanically disadvantaged.
I have a '79 auto. Please believe me that the vacuum shut-off switch is there as it is in EVERY vacuum controlled cruise system. I'd take a photo if it was in a reasonably accessible space and my neck wasn't in spasm
Look (or feel) in the bracket that holds the brake lamp switch. An inch or so above you'll feel another hole oriented the same way as the one for the brake lamp switch. That's where the vacuum switch installs. The redundancy that allows both an electrical and vacuum shutdown is a failsafe measure.
Cruise control is a dedicated system whose electric and vacuum is separate from all others. Find the wires leading from the transducer through the firewall. They should be taped together with a vacuum hose with all running through a dedicated grommet in the firewall. Even with the entire dash and cabin wiring harness removed it is not easy to find those wires or that vacuum line!
I hear you Mike. I have a valve on the way. Thank you for your help in my issue. Folks like you make this forum work. Old dogs, like me are hard to teach any tricks.
I thought I would get back with you guys regarding the issues with the cruise. I went this am down to NCRS regional meeting here in Greenville, S.C. I asked 3 different experts, "judges" the question of whether there is an electrical switch and a vacuum valve located on the brake pedal to cancel the cruise. Two had no clue what I was referring to and the other said he had never seen but one switch.
You guys were right! After removing my seat and contorting my body, my car has both!!!!! So much for the experts. I told the judge that I had gotten my info from my friends on this forum. He made a statement about the folks on here after which I just shook my head and walked away.
BTW, there were 40 or so beautiful Vetts. 1967 seem to have more there although there were quite a few C-3's.
Thanks Mike
