I just purchased a1979 Corvette that was sitting in a garage for two years. The key turns in the locks but no clicking and the doors will not unlock. A locksmith is not optimistic about unlocking saying the mechanism is plastic and likely broken. Anyone experience this or have suggestions that does include drilling in the door frame?
Pray they were telling the truth and it only sat for two years!
I did some searching at this site and found almost nothing to help you. It seems unusual for this problem to happen on both doors at the same time unless, perhaps, the car as sat for a VERY long time.
An older locksmith might be familiar with getting a grip on the inside lock release **** with a wire.
The fact that the key turns both directions but it does not unlock is not good.
The key should turn 180 degrees between lock (key turned towards the front) and unlock (key turned towards the rear). The key remove position is centered. Is this what you find?
