Ok, I am thinking of selling my 4- speed for a T-56 6- speed , at least I believe this is how
to identify it by name. Now my question(s) are 1. What do I expect to pay for a 6- speed ?
In going around to salvage yards what do I ask for? 6- speed from a Camaro? Does it matter
gear ratios? If I sell my 4- speed what can I expect to get out of it towards the 6- speed.
Realize this is a loaded / mutliquestion but thanks in advance. :)
I'd ask for a 6 speed from an F-body. The Corvette ZF 6 speed is more expensive to rebuilt and not as plentiful. I've heard the earlier versions had a better ratios than the later ones. AS for cost, I think that will depend on geographic location. I don't see a lot of them up here( but then I really haven't been looking too hard)
AS for your 4 speed, you probably won't get much for it. They around here go for around $400-500 Canadian.
The T-56 is a Borg Warner tranny, the other 6 speed used in '89-96 Vettes was the ZF6 (Zuffen Hauzen) from Porsche.
A used T-56 will set you back $1500 used and $3,000 new for the tranny You then need to buy clutches, flywheels, pressure plates, linkage, hydraulics, slave, master, ect.
A ZF6 will set you back $2,000 used, $6,000 new, plus all the other parts listed above.
