I'm going to replace my motor mounts on my '76. It seems like no big deal when I look at it, but I tend to overlook potential problems until I run into them.
Are there any " oh S%^&" obstacles that I need to be aware of?
There are three bolts that hold them on. One on each end and one at the bottom center which could be a real pain to get to with the motor still in the car. Depends on high you can lift the motor before the trans bell housing hits the fire wall.
Good luck
I have two new factory style CarQuest motor mounts new in the box. Send me your address and you can have them, just send me a check back for whatever the shipping was.
I have been told there is usually no good reason to change them.
How about if you powershift, break both of them, blow the fan through the shroud and make the hood fly open on the 1-2 shift.:D They break all the time. The only thing that holds the motor in when they break is the exhaust.
A lot of these have safeties built into them so when they break they don't go through the radiator, shroud, etc.
I just pulled the motor and the left mount fell to the floor - split in two!
I bought some Energy Suspension poly mounts to try.

unbolt the lower center bolt first before raising the engine. If there is a restrainer built into the mount bend it out of the way. they if the other two bolts are accesable at the time remove them also. in some instances of you have the existing ignition wire shields attached you will have to either remove them or at least move them out of the way. by the way if its the original setup your ignition wires run under the mounts. pull the center bolt betwen the chassis mount and the motor mount and jack up the engine using a block of wood on top of the jack and the oil pan. go slow and watch for any denting of the pan. on instillation you want to put the mount back on the engine with the top two bolts but just snug these bolts so that when you lower the engine back into the chassis you can shift the mount if necessary to install the lower bolt. hope this helps. wcj
