Default Stupid paint question

So, I looked in the much-ballyhooed "Corvette Black Book", and of course there are no production numbers by color for '74 (along with several other years). Has anybody come up with totals by color since the book was compiled?

And no, the build sheet was not legible.

By "SPEC" paint code, do you mean that the trim tag in the drivers door jamb actually reads "SPEC" for the paint code there? If so, it sounds like your car was a special COPO of some sort. You may want to post on the NCRS tech board to get some more insight into what colors were deemed "SPEC" for '74.

If memory serves me correct, a lot of the SPEC code cars were painted black since black wasn't offered for quite a few years.

Also "Mary Kay pink" and some Cadillac metallic colors were popular special order paints. Imagine that - being able to get any color you wanted from the factory! Those were the good old days... Joe

Yes, that's how the tag reads. Speculation is that the car was delivered in prime, based upon disassembly of the car and removal of some items.

I have exchanged email with a nice fellow that has a verified delivered-in-prime 81, and he feels it is likely mine was as well.

If anybody knows how to make the weathered type reappear on the sheet, let me know.

BTW, you've got to be careful throwing around the COPO acronym, the ZL1 guys seem to feel they own the phrase, and seem to take a dim view of using it in connection with anything other than the recognized Hi-po cars. Especially when related to paint.

Here's the tag

Then I gently suggest that they try to understand that COPO means "Central Office Production Order" and the only thing that it indicates was that the central office had to approve production of a non-standard configuration. Sure, there were performance COPO codes, but there were other cases for paint, interior, even a factory installed luggage rack in one case I know of.
