Default 1972 Steering Control Valve replacement.

Hi , I am replacing the Steering control valve on a 1972 corvette. The original steering control valve had a zerk fitting to add grease. The reman part does not have a zerk fitting. I am guessing that the new part is a sealed unit and does not need grease. Or am I supposed to transfer the zerk fitting from the old part and grease the part regularly?

Never add grease. Good chance of damaging seals. Voids the warranty. Fittings are eliminated on most remanufactured valves to eliminate the temptation.

if there is a threaded hole on the remanufactured valve for a grease fitting you cannt leave it open, you need the grease fitting and should grease it.

I believe that is incorrect but I've been wrong before. The ability to add grease is for the manufacturer/rebuilder to add grease at assembly. It should not need to be greased again. Over-greasing will compromise the internal seals. I've heard that rebuilders like Lonestar, a very respected remanufacturer, state that adding additional grease will void the warranty.
Obviously if the grease fitting hole is open, it can't be left that way. Either plug it (some come already plugged) or put a fitting in it.
Don't take my word for it, ask the manufacturer or rebuilder.

so basically the OP should be asking the source from which the valve was purchased to determine the correct procedure.
