. It's not hard,, just not easy,,,not sure how high you have your car off the ground,, ( jack stands, easy jack,,post lift,,etc,) , hopefully you can connect most lines just befor it goes up, (empty of fuel, of course ), this may sound silly, but can help a one man install,,,, take about 10ft of soft 1/2" rope, thread it through the filler port, from the top, , then tie a 12" piece of wood broom stick on the end of rope, to make a 'T', drop it into tank, then as you raise the tank, pull the slack out of rope, as rope is draped across the rear of the car,,, work tank into place, and continue pull slack out of rope, , , once tank is in place, you can secure the loose end of rope to a point at rear of frame, or bumper bracket to keep tank in air, to complete your installation hands free,, ,,, ,, My 4yr old grandson usually helps me, but not everyone has one when you need him,,,, i work solo most of the time too, so little tricks are always needed,,,,, teddy,,

I have a 1" scar on my kneecap that went deep, needed a couple stitches.....
Didn't stop bleeding for hours.

I was hoisting it up under my '72 by myself, it slipped and the untrimmed corner went into my knee.

make sure you put a towel/blanket/carpet on the rear deck/body panel,so you don't cut into the body or paint

go find some ''QUICK CLOT'' [the sponges work great] it will stop just about any kind of bleeding [tampons work good for gun shot wounds too]

I guess you got it back installed.

I have no clue on why towels are needed to protect paint when the fuel tank is no where near hitting any outer painted surface....or ropes are needed to install these fuel tanks. but..I guess that is how some people do it.

I simply reverse the procedure it took to get it out. So..with the fuel tank straps and bracket still in place...I slide the fuel tank into place and while holding fuel tank up..I take my other hand and bring the fuel tank crossmember into place...because the bolts are still in the frame an install a nut on each side. It may take some careful movement in the fuel tank crossmemeber to get the bolts to go through the holes...but not impossible. countless done this way and seems to me not to be that difficult.

That's how I do it too, Never had a problem. The only thing I do different is I have a couple pieces of safety wire in place, secured at one end. Once I've got the tank raised up I put a quick wrap on the other end of the wire such that it supports the tank. I then make the connections on top and also that way I can just let go if my arms get tired or I run into some issue.

Glad to read that I was not the only one. I know there is always more than one way to skin a cat...and I guess if the job gets done and no one gets hurts or nothing gets broken...that is a good thing also.

I can say that often times when I am holding up the fuel tank getting the bolts to go through the crossmember. If I do not get it rather quickly..in a minute or so. I let the fuel tank relax and it normally with get stuck and I go in for round two.

And I do this when the car is on the ground and I have the rear tires up on my ramps that are about 3 inches off the ground.

Yeah, true, many ways it can be done,,,,,, decades ago we did it one handed,,, now we work smarter, and not as hard, and still get it done, solo,,,,, I'm thinking your query on the rope trick, and why paint needed to be protected, you really didn't understand the rope trick,,, glad you got it done Snoopy, and no paint was harmed, and no body parts injured either, all in a day's work,

just recently did my 75 tank by myself. I put the tank straps on loosely where they attach at the rear of the frame, rotated the tank up onto the rear cross member, and supported the tank with heavy rubber bungee cords underneath so that I could get the front tank cross member bolted into place.
