any transmission builders here?
We rebuilt our 1971 TH400 with the help of a great "How to" book full of pictures, and a new kit with seals, rings, & clutches. Now we`re having an issue getting input shaft end play adjusted. Every time we install the pump & torque it to the recommended 18 pounds, it locks up, and the tail shaft won`t turn. (However, the tail shaft will turn with the pump in, but not tightened down). We`ve tried several different sizes of thrust washers, with the same results. Do we need to go back in and check the end play adjustment between the clutch packs? And if so, where do we find the recommended specs at those intervals?

Are you sure the hubs dropped down through all the clutches?
