Default Mysterious oil

Fellow Vetteheads:
I took my 76 out of storage this week, when I started it up a mist came out of the heater vents and the carpet on the passenger side was saturated with oil? What do you think would be going on?

Thank You

Either antifreeze or if you have AC, refrigerant oil.

on a warm but not fully heated engine open your coolant expansion bottle and smell it. Then compare that to the smell of your carpet.

It is anti freeze Bond. It can feel a little oily to the touch. Sounds like your heater core is leaking. It's a bit of a job but an excellent opportunity to clean the leaves and debris out of your evap core while it's apart. They tend to get plugged up with lots of crud over the years. You'll probably find both your heater and A/C more efficient afterwords.
Good luck, Greg

Greg.
Would you happen to know of a procedure I can use to get at the heater core?

Oh man, that's a job. 24 years ago I had mine done at a local Vette shop. $200+ parts. What a deal. Those days are gone.

If you dont need heat, loop heater hose from water pump to intake manifold and deal with it later.
