Default Emission equipment delete

Hey everyone

In a previous post I explained that I'm going to remove all the smog equipment on my 77 L48 (Smog pump, EGR, ...) to tidy up my engine bay.

I have read that it is 'very simple' procedure.
"It is just a simple unbolt process."
But is it really? I have little to non experience with engine technique etc...

Do you guys have an idea of the different types (size and material) of plugs and bolts that I need, once the equipment is removed?
I now I need 1/4"-18 NPS brass bolts for the exhaust manifolds, but What about the rest of the tubes and hoses of the emission equipment?

Do I have to use any sealant for the bolts and plugs?

Will I have to retune my carb (original Qjet)? (also no experience with that... can't find a clear step by step guide)

The reason I ask these things, is because I've found a shop in the north of the Netherlands (not too far from Belgium), that sells a lot of american engine equipment. I want to make a list of all the things I need, so I don't have to make several trips to the shop, or pay extra shipping costs.

The tubes that go into your exhaust manifolds are NOT pipe thread. I believe that they are 5/16-24.

I use stainless steel Allen head set screws like the one in the photo below. The ones I have already have the sealant applied to it. So ..it is up to you if you want to add some sealant or not. The ones I use are short ...about 3/8" long. So when I install it...the end of the set screw is flush with the casting and it is not poking out.

Just make sure ANY vacuum hoses that are attached to any part you are removing is capped off.

From what it looks like...those rubber caps should be able to be used.

Find and join a car club in your country that is near you. Car guys are the same all over the world, and are willing to help and coach just about anybody. They will be able to see exactly what you need, and for a couple of beers will gladly help.

The holes for the trees are a real odd ball setup - 1/4" STRAIGHT pipe thread, not to be confused with 1/4" NPT tapered pipe threads. People put tapered pipe plugs in them all the time and it will trash the threads if you tighten them up too much. .

Thanks!
Do you still know where you bought them?
I'm from Belgium, and American type bolts etc... are extremely hard to find here?
I searched ebay, but I got no luck... I found some NPT ones, but no NPS.

How many do you need??? I believe it can be either 6 or 8 of them. I got these a long time ago and can not remember where I got them.

I can send you some if you obviously cover the costs of shipping.

Let me know if that works for you.

IF SO...PM me with your address and I will get them coming to you.

That would be very kind! I need 8 in total.
So your bolts are also 1/4" - 18 NPS?
How much are the shipping costs for Belgium?

PM me with your address...I have no clue until I know where to send them.

NO..they are more like 1/2"-20.

I KNOW they work.

I measures the outside diameter of my Allen set screws and it is roughly 0.4955".

Measure the outside of the flare nuts and it will be right there at it.

You can use either NPT 1/4 which is a tapered thread (1/4 is not the diameter of the bolt for NPT). 1/4 NPT has a 18 thread per inch per NPT charts.

You can also use a non tapered bolt of same diameter and thread pitch but I haven't confirmed the size yet.

I would recommend putting a light oil on the air injector tubes and let sit to allow it to penetrate. They use a flare wrench to remove the fittings/tube from one side. Once removed take the air tube to a local HW store to see if they have a metric bolt or set screw that is a close match. Something will be close.

A 1/4" PIPE size is a little over 1/2" outside diameter. If you look for 1/4"-18 BOLT you will get a common bolt that will not fit. It will be too small.

1/4" PIPE size plug with straight threads and 18 threads per inch pitch is the thing you will need.

Sounds like DUB will get you fixed up.

Hopefully DUB gets you hooked up, OP.

For anyone else, I found these to work for my car:

https://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-...1967-1981.html

They are, as far as I can tell, 1/4"-18 NPS (National Pipe Straight).

It seems that 'Screwcorner' is a German shopI will send them an email, and ask if they have the size. Because I can't find 1/4-18 NPS on their Ebay shop.

If they don't have it, I will check rick's Camaro's or DUB.
