Default Recommendation for TH400 Rebuild Kit

Taking a TH400 to a builder that can 'go through' the transmission. I know -0- about the history of the Trans other than what it originally went in. It is a 1969, CL code.

It'll be going into a street driven car that I want to shift firmly, but NOT HARSH/WHAM type stuff. Assume 350-375hp (or less), 3.08 rear for time being, but ultimately will probably move to 3.55 or so.

He will provide the labor, but I was going to at least offer to provide the parts/kit to be used in it. I know there is a wide range, starting with things off the big auction side.

I want it to have whatever it needs, including bushings, etc., if they need replacing. All the wear parts have to go.

This may be one of those 'opinion' type questions, but is there a 'recommended' vendor or brand that I should try to stick with, whether I provide, or tell him to buy directly? Or since I'm not building a 600hp strip car, does it make a lot of difference on what I use? I have to believe there are some to avoid?

Thanks for any help.

A TransGo rebuild/shift kit is the way to go...If you use the calibration for "FIRM" shifts, it will shift nice and firm but not harsh. Also, if you run an aftermarket stall converter, you will not even feel it shift when driving normally.

I used the most aggressive calibration and at anything less the WOT, the shifts are pretty seamless, but I do run a 10" converter.

As for the rebuild, pretty much anything they put in it will work fine for you...A stock T400 will last forever behind 375hp...and the shift kit will make it feel a bit more snappy.

I put in a B/M Shift Kit in about 30 years ago in my t/b 400. Set it on the R/V Towing setting.

1-2 shifts are nice and firm, haven't broken anything in the trans in 40 some odd years.
