Installed a set of SS headers a few months back along with Pypes exhaust system...Headers radiating too much heat ! Wrapped em with Titanium wrap seemed to be even hotter then with no wrap..They also hang kinda low scrapping on driveways and speed bumps. Sounds great but no thanks done with em! Gonna install a set of ceramic coated 2.5 ram horns.
Post back with the difference in performance and heat issues when completed.. Also if you have 2.5 ram horns the Pypes downpipes DCC10S wont fit, the flange is for 2.25 ram horns..however the pipe itself is 2.5 with a welded 2.25 section for the flange..Pypes need to clarify this...My shipping costs to Hawaii negates returning em ..Just gonna modify em to work..Geez !
when adding longtubes and a good exhaust you may need to richen things up a bit. Lean=heat
If they are scraping may as well get rid of them. Can you even make use of those with Hawaii traffic?
Sniper EFI ,its not running lean according to the LCD touchscreen..I'm on the Big island ,Kona side some traffic at times but nice open roads to test things when the foot gets heavy...On the way home I have a 4 mile windy road to check the handling of my new coilover suspension sweeet! Just have to watch out for the Turkeys crossing the road.Yup wild turkeys in Hawaii..Headers gotta go, just heating things up to much..Alternator, hoses, and wiring are just getting toasted in my opinion...Don't remember things getting so heated up with the stock manifolds..Hopefully the coated ram horns cool things down a bit..Alohas!

I've run ceramic coated headers in multiple cars and motorcycles. All of mine have been Jet Hot Sterling Ceramic coated inside and out.
They make a huge difference on underhood temperatures and on a motorcycle it's less heat on your legs or feet. Stainless alway seems to be the hottest, probably because it's usually thinner walled than mild steel.
I heard more negative affects about header wrap than good. First off, they void any warranty that a header company "might" have. Second, they can hold moisture if you are going for the patina look. And they seem to hold heat after engine shutdown. Besides, wrap looks like crap.
I don't have to worry about low headers anymore. Every speed bump in town ground off the point of the collector flange. If your front tires are little on the small size, that doesn't help clearance either.

What brand header are you using? Some of the less expensive brands tend to have these issues. Wrap will rust the headers from the inside out. You should get some ceramic coated headers or get the ram horns coated.
I just had the mis-pleasure of installing the Pypes exhaust for my '81. They sent two incorrect pipes to me and the system didn't fit correctly. I had to take it to a muffler shop to finish the installation.

You'll loose some top end horsepower but I dont think much bottom end torque. I have 2.5 inch summit rams horns to 2.5inch sweet thunder pipes. I really like them and they never loosen up
I went with Mcjacks which are nice in the sense of bolt up, same as stock manifold. However, if I would do it again, I'd do something else. Maybe Sandersons or Patriots, something along that route if you don't want to scrape and keep it simple and not too far from stock. Mcjacks are way too expensive and for the quality, not worth it. After three days of running them, they lost their nice ceramic coating and got dull on the passenger side header. At their price, I don't recommend them. Lot better options out there. Live and learn. Just my experience with Mcjacks.

My McJacks are all cracked at the collector welds. I need to Reweld them and maybe pass them along. I'm liking the ramshorns so far
I went with Hooker Comp Headers and CC intermediate pipes to locate as factory and N-11 mufflers. The system after mock up are out for ceramic coating in and out. During mock up they fit great and I do not anticipate any issues with hitting the road.
you must have gotten some funky wrap, i dont remember what my heat reading was on these but you can touch them after a good drive without melting your skin off.
I just purchased a set of new Sandersons short tube headers. 1 7/8" mild steel, with 3" collectors, 2.5" reducers included and 3/8" flanges, powder coated inside and out. You won't loose any performance going to a short tube design on a street car and you won't have clearance issues. The best quality on the market I found and they have been around forever. You should see a huge heat reduction going to headers over any cast exhaust system. Contact Donna at Sanderson Headers in Torrance CA. She has been with Sanderson for years and is extremely knowledgeable about headers and their product.
