I'm the proud owner of two vettes, a 64 365hp vert and a 69 L71 vert.
In October, I purchased a 70 Chevelle SS, which was originally a 396. It's now got a 454 with a Speed Demon 850 carb, Edelbrock Airgap RPM intake, and Patriot aluminum heads. I've got a dyno sheet from the previous owner, and it produces 560 hp. Also has a Tremac 5 speed.
Now that spring is finally here, Iv'e been able to drive it some and it's a true beast that can't pass a gas pump.
I'm thinking of putting on an EFI, either Holley or Fitech. I'm looking for easier starting, and possibly better fuel economy.
I've been hanging around here for many years, and don't belong to any Chevelle forums. Always got good advice and thought I'd get some opinions before I go shopping.
The fuel injection will provide better driveability but as far as fuel economy don't expect a huge increase unless the carb is tuned poorly. That being said both my cars have fuel injection and I would not go back to a carb. Fuel injection provides much better overall performance than a carb.
Holley Sniper has been getting a lot of good reviews and comments. As always there are a few that have not gone as planned. Redcruz1120 has a good post on his Sniper installation. He used a regulator at the tank with only a short return line which made plumbing easy. Holley makes a regulator/filter specifically for this application and an LS version is available for a little less $.

Thanks. I’ve been reading all of the posts I can find and have learned a lot.
As long as it doesn't have a Windsor and a c6 in it... what rpm you turning at 65 in 5th?
This is an important question if you ask me. If you get a chance to let us know...it can provide information that can either make suggestions aid you in gaining fuel economy or not.
But...I guess you bought this car due to it can tear of the pavement?...or was it for other reasons. Not that it really matters...but if you bought the car because how beautiful it is and the true horsepower...then living with how much it likes gas is what it is.
I know you want it to start easier...but ..as you more than likely already know....there is a point that this can effect its power to some degree if you are willing to lose that.
I have a similar collection, 66 427/425 hp, 70 454, and a 70 Chevelle SS 396. All of my rides have Edelbrock EFI. The SS has a 540 solid roller, Tremec 5 speed, and Edelbrock Pro Flo 3 MPFI. The 66 427 also has the Pro Flo 3 and the 70 has a new 496 engine and the E Street 2 throttle body style because of the limited hood clearance.
I really like efi for the easy starts, better fuel economy, and easy tunability.

I’ve always been a purist and my other cars are pure stock. Saw this one and couldn’t resist. Been looking for 70 Chevelle for a while. My other cars don’t get driven over 500-1,000 miles per year, but hope to drive this one more. Don’t want to sacrifice performance for economy but looking for better driving experience and less maintenance. If the EFI reduces performance, I’ll stick with current setup.

That’s what I’m looking for.
Nice collection! Add a 66 GTO and we could be brothers from different mothers!
