Default Rear trailing arms

I'm sure this has been asked and answered here, but I couldn't find it. I see they make offset rear trailing arms, for wider rear tires, but is it really necessary, and at what width does it become necessary?
I have a 73 I'm doing a mild resto-mod on, and would like to go with wider tires, but I'm not going crazy.
Thanks in advance.

Necessary if you stay with 15" wheels. Not required if you go with 17-19" wheels.

You can pick up a little room by moving the pb bracket to the top of the arm. cut and weld it

So is there a best place to move it to? Any pictures?
And if I go to a 245 or 255/45/19 will that clear?

My c3 came off the lot with 255 tires. So you should not have to muck with anything if you have corrected Back Spacing

years ago I used 285 rears on 10 x 17 and 255 front on 9 x 17. Both with 4.5 bs. It had great grip and looked nice now 18 inch has a good tire selection. Imo 19s would look out of place with our tiny stock rotors

These are 275 40R 18 front and rear, with no modifications to the stock setup. ( spring / rear sway bar / e-brake cable etc)

Wheels are 18x9.5" with 4.75" BS -12mm offset. This matches the factory 15x8" with 4" BS -12mm offset and add's 3/4" inner & outer to the factory wheel.

You can check your car by measuring 3/4" from all points of the factory wheel to see if you will have any problems. With 18 or 19" wheels the e-brake cable is inside of the rims.

If you go more than 4.75" BS on a 9.5" wheel, then you might need to move the ebrake cable.

Here is the e-brake cable / sway bar clearance on my car.

Great looking car. I love the way your car sits!
Do you have any rubbing when turning in the front?

With the factory steering on full lock turning right It did because the front spoiler doesn't fit well. (not factory spoiler) this I could fix and have a better fit. Then when I installed the R&P steering the full turning was reduced and no longer is a problem.

I went offset t-arms (global west) to be able to run 18x10 wheels.
