Date coding alternator for ‘75
“1102474 61A”
“5E8 - 12V NE?”
Thanks in advance: I just seapped my alternator out and suspect the one I took out is the original Delco-Remy unit. I have attached a picture that shows the last three digits as “474”. An older post I found related to a ‘64 owner faced with the same issue indicated that the last three digits are the week/year of manufacture. Does this hold true for the unit in my ‘75 as well? I know conventions can change but I would like to hang onto the original and have it rebuilt if it is original. Thanks again for your expertice and insight.

Thanks very much!! I really appreciate the assist, as I would certainly not have know that. As it happens, my daughter’s birthday is 5/8!

How does the May 5th date match with the date of manufacture of your 1975? You can get at that a couple of ways if not sure, just ask. First place to look though is your manufacturers plate behind the drivers side door. Should be a month and day manufactured plate in there.
Always fun to sort out the facts and details.
Have fun with it.

Quite easy to install the new guts in your original cleaned-up cases.

Thank you!
My tag teads I05 which corresponds to June 05, 1975? I guess the alternator could have been sitting on the shelf for a month?
