Default C3 454 Engine & Transmission in from front or side

About to put the engine with auto transmission bolted on back in the car, what's best using a hoist from the side or from the front?

Kind regards
Paul

It’s gonna have to go in from the side unless you have an extremely long boom on the engine hoist.

I just pulled mine this weekend. I went in from the side, took both front wheels off so the fork legs on the hoist wouldn’t hit the tire. I actually sat the car down on cinder blocks on the frame to get it low enough, that way I would have enough reach with the boom to swing it all over the fender.

This time I just pulled the engine only, last time I pulled the engine and the trans together, and did it the same way.

It’s tight with the big block and trans but it will come out. Get one of the screw style levelers, that will help as well.

I did exactly the same in 2014 when I pulled the L-82: Wheels off in front, lower the car as low as you can go, left the 4 speed in the car, and from the side...no way I could reach the engine with the hoist from the front..................

AJ, 1.7 and 1.8 rockers? Or do you just like the alternating color scheme?

Nothing major....Just minor updates. Some oil control mods (windage tray and pan mods), some additional port work on the heads, and ofcourse a VJ, guides, seals etc... Switch to a new style Morel lifter that's supposed to be quieter and more then likely, a cam change(just a TAD bigger)...Also switching to 2" headers from 1 7/8" (w/ 1 smashed tube)...Re-machine the whole lump and freshen everything up. Just minor updates to an already great driving combo....shooting for 700hp or so...

I could....I might, once its towards the end...Its gonna be a long project though. The car will be in the paint shop for 3 months and the engine at the builder's for probably 2 months so.....not a lot gonna be happening anytime soon. I'll definitely post up the dyno chart and cool info when its done. I won't be in a big hurry to get the car to the track with brand new paint on it.

most cherry picker booms are too short ( my harbor freight ) you will have to go in from the side with the left front wheel off..
engine plus tranny is a tuff one.. good luck.

No....No Power Tour for me.

I actually hadn't planned on going anyway. My wife and I were going to take my C7Z cross country to Deals Gap, NC to run the Tail of the Dragon and stay in the mountains but.... With the paint job and now engine job, I cancelled the trip to save the funds.
