Default Starter recommendation

Starter on my 70 Chevelle crapped out. It was a high torque mini. Engine is a 454, 10.5 compression.

Selection of starters is mind numbing. Should I stay with mini, if so, any recommendation? I’m finding prices from $100 to over $300.

Thanks

Ken

Can you have you current starter rebuilt at a local machine alternator/starter/electric motor shop? I still have my OEM Delco starter from 1978 on my C3...Had it rebuilt locally in the 90's for $50......probs $100 today...

I've used the same basic Summit mini starter for 15 plus years on my 427 and the 540/555. It's a Pro Torque which is based on a Nippondenso design. Fits large and small flywheels, can be clocked to clear headers etc and if you were ever in a need for parts...they are easily found. Very good design.

East coast auto electric, made in USA. And they sell the rebuild parts so you can rebuild them

Thanks for all of the input. Talked it over with my mechanic and decided on a Powermaster 9612.

Ken

That's what I'm running on my '81 Is a Powermaster.

I had an oil leak get into the starter and ruined something in it.

I called Powermaster. They replaced the damaged parts free of charge. I just paid some minimal labor charges. Their customer service is awesome.
