A214. 010 blocks dont date back to 64. 64's are small journal like 283's. Has to be 74 block, I would think.

Problem is he wants LT-1 money for a car that may never have had an LT-1 and sure doesn't now.

Why is my 77 stamed on a pad at the rear of the engine? On the passingep side?

Not trying to be a butt. I would like to see that, never even heard of it on a GM engine.

Me neither. The front machined pad is blank. I knew that the numbers didn't match, I've never seen anything like it either. I thought it might be a truck engine. It's a 383S. Who knows!

block was decked or over the counter bare. Service short and long block had a short pad 1 set of numbers. Crate engines became popular in the mid eighties. There were limited crate engines prior L88, LS7, LT1, etc. Garden variety production engines not so much just a short or fitted block. Oh, how the times have changed.

So does that mean that it was a crate engine?

No. No numbers means someone besides GM built it.

If I were seriously interested in this car, at this point, before going any further, I'd be THROUGHLY inspecting the frame and birdcage for rust.....

Appreciate everyone's input on this.

The car is advertised as having 60,150 miles. If I personally inspect the car, the frame and birdcage are in good shape and the car drives reasonably well, what is a fair price to offer the guy?
