Default 1977 Car Seat Question...

The seat belt retractor under the drivers side seat on my 1977 appears to be stuck. It looks like I'll need to take the seat out to access the retractor. Is there anything that I should watch out for when removing the seat - like anything under the car that may fall off or ?? when I remove the seat mounting bolks? Would I be better off taking it into a chevvy dealer and having them replace it? Thanks for any/all advice.

4 bolts hold the seat in--nothing will fall off under the car. Remove screws holding the lower retractor cover and you're in. (Enjoy the carpet nastiness under the seat.)

If you need to replace your retractor, GM will not be able to help...New GM replacement belts for these cars have not been available for years. You will need to either find a good used replacement set (start a WTB thread in the parts section) or you will need to buy an aftermarket set of belts.

To remove the entire belt you will also have to remove the rear retractor.

Pull the seat use some PB blaster gingerly on seat bolts before starting . After seat out retractors will pull out easily . Clean belt with mild soap and water . Lube retractor gingerly with PB Blaster and wipe rust away. May be you can blow debrie out first with air if have the means. Let all air dry in sun then retract by hand out of car lube if necessary. Good Luck
