Ii'VE NEVER DONE VALVE ADJUSTMENT, BUT i'M PLANNING ON IT ON SUNDAY TO GET MY RECENTLY REBUILT ENGINE RUNNING.I UNDERSTAND THE BSCICS, BUT WHAT STOPS THE NUT FROM BACKING OFF OVER TIME...AM i MISSING SOMETHING?
I have also heard not to reuse the old nuts too many times....I just went ahead and bought new ones.....BTW Lars has a great paper written up about the subject.
What Lars said.
The crimped nuts work fine on a hydraulic motor.
It is better to use new crimped nuts that are not worn and are tighter.
On a solid lifter one they will still lose adjustment periodically. .
Poly-locs nuts (have a lock screw) will hold that adjustment for years on a solid, if it's mild.
The stock crimped rocker nuts WILL back off if they become worn after too much on and off! If the torque to turn them drops below about 85% of the original running torque, I would replace them.
