My 68 convertible has 4 under-dash cowl bars. Built in April 68.

You have had a lot of suggestions about adding a spreader bar. It may not cure all of the shakes and rattles, but it does stiffen the side-to-side cornering of the car. Like a number of other posters, I made one from heim joints I purchased and from some threaded rod and scrap steel. It cost less than $30. If you have removed the stock belt-driven fan, there will be plenty of room to install it.
