Is there an adjustment for the neutral safety switch? I found out my 77 will still start in drive. The wires and switch are still intact, or is it something that is just replaced? Thanks in advance.

it usually fails open so the car doesn't start... if I recall correctly it has a predetermined position that makes it work only in park. if you take the shifter console apart to fix it make your self a jumper cable to bypass the switch and keep in the car in the event the unit fails in the future.
let me see if I have a picture of mine when I replaced it
edit...I cant find a picture of it

Automatic?
If so, press the button and pull it back towards 2nd a little and see if it still starts, or even all the way to second. If it doesn't then you can adjust the switch a little. Where it mounts to the shifter it's slotted and you can rotate it some to get it to be in the correct location.
That's from a 72 but the switch is almost the same

Yes Automatic, thanks for the info my car is low miles I'm the second owner. Unfortunately the previous owner neglected it, so I'm sure I'll find more surprises.
Nice. (maybe update your profile info with the car year and even put what general location you're at (even just the country or state))
As I said, try pulling it back into 2nd and see if it'll still try to start, if so it's more likely something else rather than just out of adjustment.\
