Yellow is 12 volts positive with the key ON.
Gray sends 12 volts to the bulb in the radio when the light switch is pulled.
Black is the ground.

Thanks for the 68 radio wire color verification, I don’t see any of the radio wires listed in my wiring diagram.
The original 68 radio was replaced by previous owner with a cassette unit that I am replacing with an original looking unit that has modern capabilities. It’s wiring calls for both a memory (battery) power as well as ignition switch power.
I assume cars yellow lead is the ignition lead and gray won’t be used as the units lights are powered via some other internal wiring.
Where would I pick up a battery lead needed to power the units memory function?

You can pick up 12 volts for the memory by connecting your yellow to the terminal in the fuse box marked 'BAT'.

Thanks, I’ll look for the fuse box BAT connection for the new stereos yellow memory lead.
Just to confirm....the cars original radio power wire is also yellow and only powered when the ignition is on?
This yellow lead can be used to power the new stereos red lead which outlines it as an ignition source.
