Tom, I've had this on for a couple of weeks now. It is hooked to a 195 degree temp sensor and both fans run constantly after it reaches temp. Would a 185 degree for one fan and a 200 degree for the second fan work better?
Thanks
Larry.
You need the off temperature of the switch to be higher than the thermostat temperature or the fans won't go off, assuming the switch is installed in a head or under the thermostat.
Wiring with 3 relays to give a high/low operation would be even better than running each fan separately. Low will often be enough cooling and it'll be much quieter when in low.
You may want to use a PWM controller to get variable speed which only runs the fans as fast as necessary both making them quieter and last longer.

Can someone post the pictures of the wiring done for electric fan? Which alternator to get if you are doing an electric fan swap? Also from which year Lincoln MK VIII is the fan that is so widely used in C3?

Any of the Lincoln MKVIII fans will work fine, as long as they are truly Lincoln fans and not the Taurus fans, which look similar but blade shape is different.** Some Lincoln fans are rumored to be 2 speed fans but...I have two of these and both are single speed.. The one on my car is a 1993 with probably a couple hundred thousand miles on it by now, still going strong.* You will need a 50 amp relay to run the fan, 8 ga wiring and a good alternator.* I run a factory style CS-144 (140 amp) and it runs everything in my car fine and holds 13.8v @ idle with full electric load, full heat soak, in the middle of summer.

If I buy these things (alternator and fan) I will try to find it on rockasuto that is why I'm asking about the year of the Lincoln mk VIII.
The Lincoln fans are not reproduced, so you won't find them on Rock Auto.* You can find the replacement motors for them new but..... The fan itself, you'll have to find locally or on Ebay.** There is usually always 4-5 for sale on ebay all the time.* However shipping to your country may make it difficult.
Here is what the Lincoln fan looks like.* There are many others that are close in resemblance but, pay attention to the blade shape and make sure they look like this.
There is a couple on ebay right now for around $140 usd.

I had to have one custom made, I made two of them. I have one left in my box. PM me and I'll get with you later today. Basically, what I paid to have it made and shipping.
That's even better. When I did mine, there weren't any (that I could find). Thanks! gjohnson is going to have to get the pigtail off've a BMW at the junk yard or find one on line.

I'll give him a pigtail!!! Unfortunately most I've come across need new leads but those are easily purchased. 90 degree pigtails are tough to find.
As far as the BMW radiator sensor, the BMW model for that is the BMW 325. The sensors go for $30 at Autozone. But, you have to get the one, with the right temperature range. They vary.
Thanks to all that replied! This forum is awesome!!I have been helped more than I can remember.Ive found the sensor/pigtail w/leads after long search online.
I had the same problem finding that particular BMW part. There are two! One is a 'temperature sensor'. You don't want that one. The second is the Cooling Fan Switch! That's the one, I finally stumbled on. It mounts in the side of the radiator on a BMW, versus the engine for the temp sensor.

The one I am looking at ..#61318361787 .180/195 deg.Description is mounts in radiator. Ive seen it described as both temp sensor and cooling fan sensor. Check it out and let me know
if its the right one
On my 1968 C3 BB Convertible I have the dual 11" Spal fans in their shroud and have had only one complaint about them. The little rubber flaps they use are a PIA to replace. I have had to replace mine twice now and am not real excited about doing it again. It is VERY difficult with the radiator in place so I have to pull the radiator out with fans attached and then replace the little rubber flaps.
I am using the DeRale PWM fan controller and I love that thing! It works beautifully and was easy to install.
The SPAL fans are built to be used in OEM applications and will last a long time. What is the best fan controller for a long term controller? I have not had great experiences with some of the units I have tried on my 1968 C3. The previous PWM controller went up in smoke after about 2 hours of running, I was not impressed after spending hundreds of dollars on the controller and the time wiring it in. After one failure I now have a backup set of wires to allow me to hot wire the fans "on" if needed after a controller failure. The fans have not let me down so far, the controllers have not been built to the same level of quality.
I just saw a new fan controller and it is made and sold as a SPAL unit. That may be my next controller if the DeRale has any issues.
Tom, What are your thought about a Cooling fan controller? You are the expert and we need experienced experts to tell us which controller is the best in YOUR opinion! Thanks for helping us out here Tom, Your vast knowledge helps us regularly. Your are respected and appreciated as an "expert" in your field!

That is the right one. Glad you found the part number, as I have it now as a reference. When I got mine, I simply asked the guy behind the counter for the cooling fan switch (or temp sensor) with the right degree range. Good one and thanks!
