Yes I think I tightened the bolt into the crank too tight and that may have contributed to it snapping. I have to buy another install/removal tool. I like the one that Autozone had for a loaner so I may buy one of those. I'm going to move forward and see where the pulley's end up.Hopefully this part of the job is finished. Thanks all for the help.

Bringing this back up. Do you have a link or part number for the balancer install tool you rented from Autozone?

It was a Proform. I don't have the part number. There are several different models but they all look pretty similar. I think they are out there for about $70.00 on ebay and Amazon.
