tach replacement
does anyone know of a replacement tach that will fit in place of the original tach. I now have h.e.i. distributor, I"m assuming that the points dist. had a hookup for the tach drive, thanks

Electronic tach from 75 thru 77 vette will fit 69 (maybe 68) thru 74 vette with no modification to tach nor dash. 75 thru 77 vette came with HEI ... as did 78 thru 82 ... but only 75 thru 77 tach fits earlier C3.

Some guys have used an Autometer gauge, it is the same size, but it does require some modification to put it in. Your best bet would be to hunt the 'vette graveyards and used parts resellers for a 75-77 electronic tach. The gauge numerals are going to be a different color, but it should function okay. You'll need a tach filter to smooth out the signal from the HEI, they are rare as hen's teeth, but you can make your own for less than $10.00.

Very easy to remove face from your old mech tach & swap the face on 75 thru 77 elec tach ... dunno what year you have or what tach you may get (yer profile 86 roadster?) ... redline & numeral-color may not be same. Gage numerals & tickmarks up thru "about" 71 had greenish tinge ... after that they were more white. Autometer gages look & work super! ... but ya need the whole set to make it look right.
