What do you guys do to wet sand and buff the tail light panel? There is a ton of edges that can be burned through. Also for you convertible guy's. what do you do for that narrow edge that meets the rear of the doors and the sides of the deck lid. Again this area does not look like putting a buffer to it is a good idea since its only about an inch and a half wide.
Well, all wet sanding is done by hand so you just exercise a little better control in the thin areas. Regardless of where you're sanding, always use a backup pad so that you ensure your working evenly. As to the buffing, it would go without writing that a machine buffer is out of the question in these areas. You can do the same job by hand and that's how it gets done. A little compound on a damp buffing rag is all it takes.
I just wetsanded and buffed my rear deck area (after pulling the luggage rack) last month. Since it's all going to be redone, I decided I could improve it for now as well as learn something. I have the variable speed makita and I used it on the small areas beside the deck lid on a low setting and it did much better than buffing by hand and I didn't appear to risk burning the paint using the lower speed. I've gotten used to turning the speed down when I'm near edges. It just seems to take a little more time but still shines just as well. Hope this helps.
