Default 72 manual / auto wiring question

Couple of questions on some stock wiring

1.. On an automatic car, is the plug still somewhere (under the dash or center console??) for the backup switch that would be used on the manual transmission? As in could you just plug in the backup switch somewhere or does it have to be cut into the harness
2.. On a manual car, is the plug still there somewhere that runs over to the shifter and connects to the backup/neutral safety switch? On mine, there is a plug near the shifter with the green and pink wires on it that plugs the wires coming off the switch but it that there on the standard shift cars?

3.. on this diagram (thanks Ernie, also the exact same from my chassis manual) for some reason it shows that the pink wire coming in from the top somehow changes to a LT green wire as it goes over to the backup light switch on the left but stays as a Pink if it goes the automatic switch on the right.
When it comes out of the standard switch it is a pink wire that somehow becomes a LT green as it leaves on the bottom. The automatic switch comes out as a LT green and stays that way
.
Is the diagram mixed up? Should the standard switch come in as pink and leave as LT green, the same way the automatic does? It doesn't show a connector anywhere which I would expect there to be anytime they change the wire colors mid run. I believe it's just a mistake in the diagram (but I also know on the neutral safety switch for automatics the purple and purple/white wires reverse at the plug for no reason so...)

Just trying to finally finish my wiring diagram and this seems odd
Thanks
M

FWIW in the wiring diagram from the chassis manual there is a small mistake
On this diagram, when it jumps across a page (fig 109) it shows the 20 grey wire that comes from the fuse panel going off the page and then it changes to a 20 PPL when it comes onto the next page and then goes over and connects to the "common" of all the rest of the grey wires for the dash lights. On the stitched together diagram Ernie recently posted it shows it as a 20 grey all the way across as it should be

The connector appropriate to your application is incorporated into the harness. If you are trying to change from automatic to manual you should be able to tap into the harness and make it work. The harness is not "fits all" you don't have both options on one harness.

I looked at all the diagrams I have and they are all like yours. P becomes LG or further up PPL becomes two P wires. I suppose to fix it we would need the "Wayback Machine"

My new harness had wires improperly inserted into the connectors at a few places.

Thanks that's more or less what I figured,
I'm not converting, just trying to finish off a wiring diagram and wasn't sure where to separate the manual / auto traces on the diagram.
Also came across an orange wire marked as CLOCK LP instead of CLOCK. amazing how little mistakes stayed for years

Mooser, I'm trying to figure out what you are asking for. My diagrams include both auto and manual trans wiring and are made to identify based on the connector. It doesn't give me accurate data on the location of the connector, but does specify which harness.

So, I'm guessing the male L connector on the reverse switch comes up behind the distributor (from the tranny) and then plug into the L female connector before entering the firewall, right?

It might not show it then.

If you look at the diagram I posted (from the chassis manual and others), where the manual trans backup switch is on the left, the wires are 18 LT Green on the top and 18 P on the bottom
When it goes over to the connector right beside it, they stay that way but cross each other, LT Green on top which then head towards the top of the image and suddenly turns into pink about where the pink wire comes over from the automatic switch over on the right
Ad the pink goes from the manual switch off to the right and turns down and suddenly becomes LT Green where it meets the LT green from the automatic switch.

I believe it's just a mistake in the wiring diagram but I can't confirm it as mine is an automatic and on it, there is a Purple and Purple w/white stripe that reverse at a connector so anything is possible

Yeah, sorry - I don't see anything like that. I would think its a misprint on the diagram as well. From what I can tell, pink should trace all the way back to the fuse panel for the + side and then green should trace from the switch all the way back to the reverse lights. The wires should only cross at the switch.

Thanks
I think that's 4 tiny mistakes I've come across. Not bad considering how many wires there are in there. I think there's something weird on the headlamp plugs are well but at least that I can verify on my car
Appreciate the time

Anytime Mooser! Your help with the windshield washer motor & pump saved me a lot of time

Undoing years of hacked wires and dumb cheap fixes on these cars is often the most time consuming things we do.
