Default Push Nut Removal Help

What's the recommended way of removing this guy?
I don't want to break that plastic cam by prying on it. I'd imagine a windshield washer pump cam would be impossible to replace just by itself.

Thanks.

I usually grab the outer edges or those retainers with needle nose pliers and try to rotate it off while pulling it up. They do break sometimes but replacements are not hard to find.

Good idea! Thank you sir.
Yeah, wasn't concerned about any damage to it. AAMOF, was thinking about a Dremmel cutter wheel goin in there, but once again worried about any collateral damage that it might cause.

You can grab opposite sides of that push-on retainer and squeeze to bow it a bit, then try to twist off. If you squeeze too hard, it will buckle and possibly break the metal retainer. No big deal...it's off!

Ya know what? I think that's what happened.
I was grabbing the thing with a needlenose and twisting/pulling, without much movement. After a few minutes of that, impatience led me to pry a little with a flat mini screwdriver, and TWING!, it went flying off somewhere into oblivion and was then able to remove the cam for better cleaning.

Cleaned it up, masked off the coil and, since it was off the motor, painted up the base to look presentable. Now I removed the motor and in the process of cleaning that dude up from the old hard grease of the 70s. I think there's a Willcox video on that somewhere (Thank the Lord for those guys ).

Thanks again Guys.

Those nuts were designed to be a one shot use anyway, and to disappear into the shop when removed
Here's some information or images that may or may not be of use putting it all together

WOW! How could it NOT help me Mooser?
It's a wonderful write-up and full of pictures detailing exactly the info required. This time it's helping me, just one of who-knows how many others before or after myself.
