This is Mrs TPK posting to get answer for frustrated Vette owner. So close to having 1980 back on the road and driver's side window not going down. Have searched online and found a couple videos, but missing some key aspects. AND many fixes start with put window half-way down. What do you do if the window isn't moving? We have new switch, new pigtail connector things and new motor on the way. Any tricks would be appreciated so this is not a PITA. And we can do it soon in a day outside bc garage not big enough to open door. Oh and I can't help after the 31st because I'm having knee surgery.

The first thing I'd do is turn the key on and try the motor in the downward position. If the amp gauge deflects then the motor is getting power and probably bad. If it doesn't deflect I'd probably go to the switch next and make sure you are getting power out of the switch (just because it's new doesn't mean it's good and one reason why in my shop we rebuild originals vs replacing them with the imported switches). Now I will say the last run of the imported switches (and there are multiple suppliers, but our supplier) have been great.
Then I'd remove the door panel, then run a jumper ground to the door. Next I'd run 12 volts to the motor and see if the motor is indeed the issue.
If the motor is stuck in the up position, about the only way I know to get the window down is to remove the two bolts that hold the motor to the drive mechanism (in other words take the motor apart inside the door, you can do this). When you do this the worm gear that drives the motor will come out with the motor, then you can lower the glass and remove the regulator to replace the motor.

An alternate method is to remove the three bolts that hold the motor on the regulator itself and take the motor out...which can be done...because I have done that.
Keeping in mind that using a 7/16" wrench will be needed due to you will need to reach inside the door and around to the backside of where the motor is.....just in case the method Willcox suggests does not work for you.
You will also need to remove the lower bolt for the regulator also so it can be pulled away enough to get the motor out. If your car is still facotry...then it has a large 1/4" rivet in it and you may not want to do my method due to possibly not having the correct rivet to reinstall there.
New regulators due not use rivets...they come with bolts.
