Will 6 x 9 speakers fit under dash without major modifications to mount them ????
No, if it could even be done it would be a major mod. The speaker placement(s) are specifically designed for 4x6's. The area of placement is not flat except where the speakers go. And it's pretty tight up there, especially on the drivers side....All I could find is a picture of my passenger side..
Not only can it not be done, it shouldn't be done! The dash speakers should only produce mid to high frequency sound. Low-bass frequencies would rattle every thing in the dash area and would sound terrible up there. The low frequency sounds should come from the kickpanel areas or from the rear compartment area.
Anyway, there is barely enough room under that dash for the two 4x6 speakers and their hardware. You would do best to replace the cheapo original speakers with good quality 4"x 6" mid/high speakers and add some mid/bass speakers elsewhere in the car.

NO! Go buy the best 4x6 you can find and put them in. They'll sound great coming off the windshield.
An don't waste your time installing in the kick panels either - little room and moisture prone.

If it's in your budget, buy a component speaker system and put the tweeters in the dash and the mid-range in the kick panels and a subwoofer in the rear. May as well get a good amp and head unit while your at it, LOL!
go get 4x6 plate speakers to use, 6x9s sound horrible due the issue of unbalanced standing waves from the extra 3" diff of width vs height... best thing for this is a 4x6 plate, put two rear pod speakers in the rear cargo area and run 6.5" subs in them, your ears will thank you.
This is similar to what im doing, get the pre-built ones, de-carpet them, put a blank board over the front, cut them for a 6.5" sub and re-carpet so they match your existing carpet.
There is plenty of air space for 6.5" subs with their required airspace, and the latest generation of mini subs are pretty hefty contenders, yeah you wont win a SPL competition with them, but they will deff sound great!

I know this is an older thread, but I'm looking at the same rear speaker cabinets.
Did you drill them into the car with the L-brackets? I really like the look of these (especially with matching carpet, nicely done!), but I want it to be completely reversible.
