I apologize if there is a thread already started about this but don't see one. Anyway I was wondering if anyone is running E85 and and Sniper EfI kit. Have the one that is rated up 650hp. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
...and don't forget, you have to calculate 25-30% less capability on the EFI system's HP rating for E85. So your 650HP system is only rated at 455 to 487HP on E85.
does the O2 sensor work the same? or does it have to be calibrated to a diff voltage?
Good question. As the name suggests, the O2 sensor measures unused oxygen in the exhaust so the sensor should work fine. I don’t think it will mistake the ethanol OH group for O2. The software that adjusts mixture will have to adjust to the fuel though. I wonder if there is a different setting or curve used for E85.
Ibanez540r:
You lose 25-30% horsepower on E85? That for some reason sounds wrong to me. I do understand you may lose a little horsepower due to the decrease in thermal efficiency with E85 but I didn't think it would be that much. I thought the 25-30 percent dealt more with the increase in fuel flow that would be required over gasoline?
The e85 will make more power that gas, but you need much more of it.
The amount of fuel is the limiting factor
That's why a "carb" that maxes out on fuel flow and makes 650 HP on gas, will make less on E85 when it maxes out of fuel flow.
I'm not familiar with the sniper (mine is accel DFI), you either need a flex fuel sensor or two fuel/timing maps if you plan to run both gas and e85. If you are only running e85 the earlier replies that covered more fuel (gph) flow is correct. You should also look at the injector duty cycle carefully, an injector that is fine for gas may be maxed out using e85. I'll be following to see how itr works out.
