Before I got the ole' Stingray I owned a 1973 Porsche 914 :smash: (I know, lol) But it was a good little track car with all 2 1/2 cylinders and all 23.4HP  it wouldn't out accelerate everything but It came out first in all the corners, and it was a 5spd. How do c3's hold up in autox? And I have always pictured those type of track cars to be manual, what about an auto tranny? Will a 1973 Stingy auto hold up?
Hi, In autocrossing here most people go for 16" or > high rims, and 8" or > wide rims with low profile tires to add to a C3's cornering and handling ability. In addition poly bushing and a heavier stabilizer bars. A 73 auto will hold and be competitive as long as the driver is capable. Our autocross courses the max speed approx 50 mph with lots of cornering, so the horsepower is a medium factor
There are many after market parts to improve the suspension in C3s. Vettebrakes sell many suspension upgrades for C3's. I installed a mono spring in the front of my shark. It really improved the handling along with larger sway bars and bushings. Autocrossing C3's is very addicting.

What he said :yesnod: . I have found that on some tracks though, smaller lighter cars seem to do better than the heavier Corvettes. As far as vette vs vette, we can get our cars to run right there with the C5's :D . It does take some planning and $$$ to get a C3 to that point but all worth it when your there  . Try it and I'm sure you'll love it ;) .
Wheels and tires. That's what you need to be in the game. I have an L48 with 220 hp almost stock and the engine give a lot of power in first gear (auto) through the course and out of corners. The torque is a great advantage, you're always in the good gear!!! Max speed approx was 60 MPH.
I don't do the best time but I drive really carefully...I don't want to mess my new paint with those cones. A lot of fun though.
A good alignement with rear smartstrut help too. You can check the Vette Improvement Program on http://www.corvettefaq.com/susp.asp for good tricks to improve the suspension and other things.
