Trying to figure out what this high pitched buzzer is after turning off ignition. The lights are off. The buzzer goes off for about 10 to 15 seconds after turning off ignition even after the key is removed so don't think it is a key warning. The buzzer only goes off when ignition is turned off. Any ideas?
I'd still bet it was the key warning buzzer, but that it's not functioning exactly right. On my 79 the key buzzer goes off when the key is in, car is off, or as you said, once you turned the car off, but it goes out once you take the key out, or if the switch is in any other position than off. Also, the exact same buzzer is activated if the headlights are left on.

Thanks! I'm going to do a little more checking. I'll also leave the lights on to see if I get the same buzzer sound. I may get back with you since you have a 79 also.
There's only one "buzzer" (actually it's an electronic sound module) in a '79. It's attached to the right side of the fuse box. It's the same sound for key in with door open, fasten belt reminder and, as part of the very common "convenience group" option headlamp on reminder. It's an early electronic "black box" and I don't believe new replacements are available.
The one in my 80 did strange things until I disconnected it. Given my other symptoms, I suspect a bad ground. I doubt the box has failed, though I haven't tried swapping it.
