Great...I just completed the same task on my 1978. I replaced everything, thus hopefully I'll never have to deal with it again in my lifetime.
I must be doing something wrong. Even with the best parts my diff seems to need work every few years! I even now have a complete spare with different gearing so I can change it out in half a day.

Bummer! I'm not worried at all.I had a top flight diff shop build mine.That was something that was above my pay grade.

If this question was for me...I bought my Rear and trailing arms completed (i.e. did not send in my case/housing for rebuilding). Yes it was more expensive that way, but I did not want deal with any of the shipping crap. I also went up to 3:55 gears.

When I did mine twenty years ago I thought that was the last time for me too......150,000 miles later I'm going to 4.11 gears from the 3.70 set. Though I don't share GKulls ability for a half day swap.....I don't mind freshening things up while it's apart, tip a few beers and enjoy the journey.

Money pit, you must have forgotten that I worked for many years as a traveling race car team pit crew with all the correct tools and two people it could be practised down to a very short time I did this last differential by my self and just a floor jack in not that many hours even doing all the half shafts 1350s
it does help that everythingis clean and I just did two years ago when I went from 4.11 rear end to 3.55 because of racing and my posi was about burned out. The diff I pulled out is just a ready spare I'm just going to put in a polished case posi unit that is super tight

yes I do go through lots of rear tires
Mine was out in a few hours, but I tend to clean and paint every area I touch,...kind of a rolling resto. Had to wait for paint to dry, and parts to arrive. Otherwise I would have been much quicker doing my swap.
I wish I had to right tools, and help...….but I work with what I have. Floor jack actually worked very well.
