My opinion on that is that the air, by the time it reaches and passes under the rear spring, is so turbulent that a rear diffuser is going to be very inefficient (there's also the weight penalty of a diffuser). As for the giant parachute effect, my personal experience is that at the end of the straights I'm going a damn good click coming into the braking zone, and I'm just fine with the extra drag to help slow the car.
On my car I have a Pace Car front spoiler, with a belly pan back to the oil pan, and have the three front grills 90% blocked off to reduce the amount of air going into the engine compartment and eventually under the car. I'm trying for increased front end grip and the least lift, front and rear.
very doable, It just need to come down to a point underneath the diff with about 4 inches of rubber skirt and keep it near the ground when the car is sitting static.
Paul, I love your front splitter solution that attaches to the stock PC front spoiler. You going to switch from plywood to plastic, aluminum, or fiberglass any time soon? -You could do another group MFGR and sale! ;-) I'd be in, anyway.
One of the problems with making a diffuser work on our C3 is the air will be a mass of turbulence by the time it gets to the diffuser. Here is a photo of the underside of a Ferrari with a diffuser.

That was not my defuser:-) but another forum member adding to the thread,,,\
Most of all the topics being hit on are talked over in depth on that 120mph thread.
As far as the rear goes where the spare sits,,,, my fix is:
I left the bucket in, its fiberglass and very light, ... on the back long bolts I threaded springs over the bolts, these springs hold down the tire bucket in place and keeps it there at speeds, but the springs allow the tub/bucket to rise up if hit or pushed on by a speed bump or other objects... then the springs push it back down after passing the object, much like the extra weight of the stair would do if it were there,,

You're thinking of Bee Jay I think Adam.

oh crap; I am. But if Paul wants to copy Beejays design and make copies in bulk and sell me one, I’ll still take him up on it.

Not this one:-) my list of things that have to be completed before i start a new project:
1. Finish building new home
2. Finish building new mall and gas station
3. Finish building new floor light that is being patented for design
4. Finish building the Ford GT
5. Finish Rebuild if a 1942 Lincoln... one of just 20 known to be in existence
6. OPEN FOR NEW PROJECTS:-)

Is that all?!? LOADs of time! ;-)
Just do like Einstein did and buy 20 of the same shirt and pants so you don't have to waste any time picking out clothes, and then get rid of that whole sleep stuff -you burn more calories while awake, than asleep, too so it's got to be good for you not to sleep!

i do own like 20 black t-shirts.. and 20 white.. 90% of what I ware.. funny
Oh man... I do love sleep... but really, just think what we could get done with out the need to sleep
But I wonder how that would effect marriage???!?!? :-)

Forum: For the sake of discussion.
Would there be much difference in drag/downforce between a spoiler and a splitter?
Let's say the same size, 6 inches below the bumper.

Yes. To my understanding, a spoiler without splitter doesn't create downforce, it just reduces air able to flow under the car (reduces lift). A splitter has the high pressure air in front of the car pressing down on it, while also creating smooth and fast flow (low pressure) under the splitter - that pressure differential above and below the splitter results in downward force on the splitter - i.e. it doesn't just reduce lift, it can create downforce. Diffusers are often added to the trailing edge of a splitter also, normally promoting airflow into the wheel area to cool brakes, while also again creating a low pressure area under the surface that is the splitter/diffuser, that results in downforce.
I'm no expert in any of this though, just an interested enthusiast, so if anyone knows that I've got some of this wrong then please step in and correct me!
Looks to me that the Silver State still runs an Unlimited Class. Last Year set a new record at 2019 MPH in a 2001 Monte Carlo. It would appear that the Monte spent quite a bit of time turning left in Nascar events prior to the SS. None the less, worlds fastest road race that's held in America, and an American car is at the top of the list.
If anyone hasn't reviewed BeeJay's solution to the front air splitter/ extended spoiler, you're really missing out.
IMHO, THIS in plastic is exactly what the world of C3s needs. Start with the Pace Car front spoiler and then a plastic splitter based upon BeeJay's design, 2 bolts, and a piece of aluminum angle iron and some rubber for a spoiler that gets nice and low to the ground. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1580644282
Then a rear diffuser that starts just behind the diff / spring...
